Marathon Fishing Report

Marathon Fishing Report

I was lucky enough to take some of my regulars out on a really nice day on Wednesday and we targeted and caught many species on fly and spin tackle.  From Grouper on fly to Jacks up to 40lbs, mutton snapper, cero and spanish Macs up to 8lb. and more. here are a couple of pictures from that day.

Other than that still plenty of Mahi in close, big Mangrove snapper, redfish. Sailfish are starting to bite.

There is always something to fish for this time of year.

January 15th 2012

Another cold front just came through and the air is in the mid 60s this am, probably mid 70s for a high most of this week. Time to break out the shoes and socks!  The Gulfstream is in very close to the reef edge so the sailfish and mahi should be within 6 or 7 miles of shore.  Thursday we caught 1 of 2 sailfish and 2 huge Amberjacks (on buttterfly jigs). Friday we caught a few blackfin tuna, a nice mahi, a silky shark, a snowy grouper and some almaco jacks, oh and  a barracuda.

Should be nice out there today, got to go.

thanks for checking in

Jan 9th 2012 ...4 sailfish again 5 days ago. Some nice mutton snapper, some blackfin tuna on jigs. Big AJs, Kingfish and snowy grouper and Mahi are mostly what we have been catching lately. Here is a picture of some delicious snowy grouper and a nice snapper that my client Todd sent me after a trip a few days ago. The Kingfish run is on and is a blast on light tackle, many fish over 30lbs to be expected for the next couple of months. Cobia are showing up good now too.

The weather has been unseasonably warm. Inshore water temperatures are soaring and there are a few large tarpon around. This will likely change in a few days with the approach of a cold front but what  a treat to have such a mild winter. Mahi are still bitting good out front, sailfish, mutton snapper, cobia . The big Kingfish and Cero mackerel are here. The bay is loaded with sea trout, jacks, ladyfish, pompano and of course spanish Mackerel.

Tarpon season is just a few short months away so book your trips now to ensure availability.

Our catch from 1-19-2012 We released the 200lb Hammerhead, nice one Vincent..
